Dr. Joyce Hickson: Let Peace Begin With Me

In response to events in Ukraine, and around the world, our theme for May is “Let There Be Peace.” Dr. Joyce Hickson begins the series this Sunday with a talk about how peace begins within ourselves.

Sunday services are at 11 a.m. in spacious Grace Fellowship Hall on our campus on Heiferhorn Creek in north Columbus. Look for us at 8827 Heiferhorn Way. We focus on human rights and care for the planet. We welcome people of all faith traditions and ethical systems, as long as they recognize and respect the dignity of all people. Our informal motto is “deeds before creeds.”

Dr. Hickson is a woman of deeds. She earned a doctorate in counseling from Mississippi State University. In Johannesburg, South Africa she established two graduate counseling programs at South Africa’s largest university. At Columbus State University she chaired the Department of Counseling and Psychological Services.

After Dr. Hickson retired, she served five years as a senior case manager at Goodwill Industries. She also was a delegation leader for groups of scholars for People to People, an organization founded by Dwight Eisenhower. She led delegations to the People’s Republic of China and to South Africa.
