Katie Howard – Living Well

Katie Howard

Our speaker today is Katie Howard, who brings a wealth of experience and dedication to both economic development and community well-being across Southwest Georgia. Since 2015, she has served at the Area Agency on Aging within the River Valley Regional Commission, where she oversees federal and state programs that support seniors and individuals with disabilities.
Her journey in regional development began in 2000 as Director of Economic Development, later expanding her role in 2012 to include Community Development. Katie has worked closely with small businesses, local governments, and development authorities across a 16-county region, helping secure funding for infrastructure improvements and providing small business loans to stimulate growth.
In recent years, Katie has cultivated a deep passion for downtown revitalization, championing transformative projects in several small towns. Though often complex, these efforts reflect her commitment to creating vibrant, resilient communities—and the rewards, she says, are well worth the challenge.

The River Valley Area Agency on Aging, based in Columbus, GA, is part of the River Valley Regional Commission and is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for older adults and individuals with disabilities. One of their key services is providing nutritious meals through both home-delivered and congregate meal programs.

The agency operates 12 senior centers across the region, which serve as hubs for these meal services and other support programs. They also collaborate with Meals on Wheels to ensure food reaches those most in need
