Les Dean: “Understanding Between Christians and Jews”

Guest speaker Les Dean will talk about how dialogue can build understanding between Christians and Jews.

Sunday services begin at 11 a.m. Join us before the service for conversation. Visitors and guests are always welcome. But wait, there’s more! On the first Sunday of the month we have a potluck lunch after the service. Visitors and guests need bring only an appetite. We’ll have plenty of food.

Les Dean

Les Dean moved to Columbus in 1998 to marry his wife Gayle and work at Aflac.  Since retirement he has been active in the Columbus Academy for Lifelong Learning. Les earned a degree in chemistry, but he also studied the Bible and “inter-religious dialogue” at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he also taught. He’s had two fellowships in interfaith dialogue from the Chapel of the Four Chaplains, and participated in Jewish-Christian seminars in Germany—east and west.

“Dialogue between Jewish and Christian scholars led to a greater understanding as Jesus became a Jewish teacher and Paul became the “founder” of Christianity,” Les says. Join us to learn more.

Our Sunday services feature a speaker—either a member of the Fellowship or a guest—who offers a presentation aligned with the Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism. (The short version: human rights and care for the planet.) Services also include music, readings, meditation and a chance to share your own thoughts.. We are truly non-denominational. As individuals, we do have beliefs, but our members subscribe to a range of religious, philosophical and ethical traditions—all tied together by respect for all people and for the planet itself.

Our unofficial motto: “deeds before creeds.”
