For 15 years, El Refugio has welcomed people impacted by immigration detention with hospitality, solidarity, and action.
We have witnessed the pain of separation, the exhaustion of long journeys, and the cruelty of detention. We have also witnessed something else—the power of community.
Because of supporters like you, last year alone, El Refugio:
2025 BY THE NUMBERS
- 1,732 loved ones hosted in our hospitality house
- 232 visits with people detained at Stewart Detention Center
- $14,000+ in gas cards distributed so families could stay connected

We belong together, not divided by detention.
Every person deserves to be with their loved ones, to move freely, and to live with dignity.
Until Stewart Detention Center is shut down, El Refugio will continue to show up by welcoming community members impacted by Stewart, by accompanying people held inside, and by organizing together for a world without cages.
At the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Columbus, GA, we are a liberal religion—not because of politics, but because of openness. Because we draw wisdom from many sources. Because we believe revelation is not sealed. Because we welcome questions, stories, and truths from every path. Join us for Sunday programs at 11:00 AM Eastern, come early to enjoy coffee, cookies and conversation!
