Jae Calain – Muscogee Queer

Jae Calain

My name is Jae Calain, and I am running events for Muscogee Queer and will soon be making it a nonprofit for the queer community.
I started Muscogee Queer due to the need for a safe, fun, and supportive community for the LGBTQIA-plus people in the Muscogee County area. The goal of this organization is to do community service to build a better reputation in Columbus and to host safe events for Queer individuals to gather and have fun.

Muscogee Queer, based in Columbus, Georgia, is an organization dedicated to creating and maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for the local queer community. They achieve this by:
Hosting events: They organize a variety of events, including drag shows, markets highlighting local queer artists, and potentially a fall Pride festival in October, coinciding with LGBTQ+ History Month. One example is their “Really Free Market” where people can obtain free items like clothes and food.
Building Community: Their activities aim to foster connections and solidarity among LGBTQ+ individuals and allies in Muscogee County and the greater Chattahoochee Valley area. They work towards creating a stronger and thriving community where individuals can feel supported and empowered.
Advocacy and Awareness: Through their events and online presence, they contribute to the visibility and recognition of the LGBTQ+ community in Columbus, Georgia.
