Guest speaker Chuck Williams presents "Covering Politics During Chaotic Times." Take a clear-eyed look, through the eyes of a professional, at how to commit journalism. Our guest speaker is award-winning reporter, columnist and editor Chuck Williams. He’s covered sports, news and politics in Columbus for nearly four decades. That includes nearly 30 years at the Columbus Ledger Enquirer. Then he made the challenging transition to TV news, as a reporter at WRBL.

Our guest speaker, immigration attorney Marty Rosenbluth, describes himself as “just a simple country lawyer fighting for justice in the trenches and baking bread and cookies.”

Sunday services begin at 11 a.m., but join us early for coffee and conversation. Visitors and guests are always welcome at our progressive Fellowship. Services include a talk, often by a member of the Fellowship or a guest speaker. They also include music, meditation and optional opportunities to share your thoughts

Marty Rosenbluth has been “fighting for justice in the trenches” for decades. He grew up in Brooklyn, then attended Antioch College, then travelled to Israel to work as a human rights researcher. Then he earned a law degree from the University of North Carolina. He has worked for a number of human rights organizations, including Amnesty International. Now he lives and practices law in Lumpkin, GA, where he works for immigrants imprisoned at the Stewart Detention Center. He makes pretty good cookies, too.

Rev. Wayne Veal, our guest speaker, presents "A Literal Burning Hell? Really?" Rev. Veal was an Assembly of God pastor for 38 years. A careful reading of a particular passage in the Bible led Rev. Veal to a realization that a loving good “has no intention of burning anyone in a literal hell.”

Rev. Veal was a hands-on pastor who built two new church buildings—one in Savanah, GA, and one in St. Mary’s GA. He also served three years as pastor of a small Southern Baptist congregation.

Rev. Marti Keller’s presents “Roller Coasters and Reflections - a spirituality of (late) summer.” She explores why summer is a good time for risk-taking. Although many schools will have started by late August, she says, and UU congregations “have ingathered,” there’s more than a month of summer left. Why is this often a time to shake things up in our lives?

Before her UU ministry, Marti Keller was a director of community and government relations for Planned Parenthood. She also was executive director of two advocacy organizations for women and children and public policy coordinator for the Georgia Rural-Urban Summit.
