What’s happening the week of March 13-19

Ron Ussery

This Sunday (March 19) Ron Ussery will present “The Passages of Life: “Sheehy and Beyond.” Gail Sheehy’s book Passages, was named one of the 10 most influential books of all time by the Library of Congress. It offers a roadmap of human development through crises and transitions. Ussery will use this classic work explore where we’ve been, where we are and where we are likely to be going.

Ron Ussery is a former newspaperman, magazine editor, personnel manager, retirement plan manager and public relations director. (A partial list.) Now he wears several hats at Brookstone School, including director of library/media services and the voice of Cougars baseball.

Tuesday, March 14
10 a.m. Social Action Meeting

Wednesday, March 15
6 p.m. UU Singers practice. All voices welcome.
7 p.m. Wednesday Night Discussion Group. This week’s topic: “Should non-profits be required to be non-political?”

Thursday, March 16
7:00 p.m. Exploring Spirituality

Friday, March 17
12:30 p.m. Friday Lunch Group meeting at Mandarin Café. Lunch started out as a meeting of former journalists. Then we added a historian. Then a doctor, a lawyer, some musicians… Bottom line: Anyone’s welcome to join our lively discussions of events—current, past and future.

Sunday, March 19, 2017
Childcare is available on Sunday’s from 9:30 a.m. until noon. This is the third Sunday of the month, so we give away the collection plate. This week’s recipient is SafeHouse.

9:30 a.m. Adult Religious Education: “The Myth of Secularism”, Part 2, led by Rick Spradlin.10:30 a.m. Coffee and conversation before the service.
10:40 a.m. Sunday service. Ron Ussery presents “The Passages of Life: “Sheehy and Beyond.” (See above.)

10:50 a.m. Children’s Religious Education: This week, Paul Lee will lead an art lesson. (Younger kids join us for the first few minutes of the service, which includes a children’s story. Then they adjourn to a classroom for their own activities.).

Don’t forget to bring clothing for the clothing drive. We are collecting clothes and shoes appropriate for job interviews and work.

SPECIAL NOTE: On Monday, March 20, at 7 p.m. we’ll celebrate the Vernal (Spring) Equinox in the Meditation Garden, 7:00 pm. If it rains, we’ll move to the Meeting House. Hal Midgette will start a fire about 5:30 p.m. so come early with hot dogs, marshmallows, etc. and make it a picnic.
